Spero Recovery Center provides treatment for individuals struggling with substance use disorder (SUD). You may be wondering where to seek support after treatment. We not only provide individuals with the tools needed for long-term recovery, but we also continue to be a pillar of support after treatment.
Spero invites alumni or individuals who have completed treatment with us to offer their services to help others through their recovery. This is beneficial to both clients and alumni because it strengthens their chances of maintaining long-term recovery.
Clients are more likely to feel motivated following the guidance of people who have already completed treatment in the facility and who continue to engage in the community. On the other hand, alumni are allowed to contribute toward an important cause which in exchange gives them a sense of purpose.
What Does Aftercare Look Like at Spero?
Aftercare is a personalized plan that is put into action when primary programming is finished. Spero’s goal is to give clients the best chance at maintaining recovery. To accomplish this, we design a plan to help individuals navigate life in early recovery outside of their treatment program.
Recovery can be a challenge. Daily awareness and self-care are necessary. An aftercare strategy can assist people in sticking to their recovery plan while following their short-term goals.
Sober Living Homes
The choice to enter sober living houses at Spero is also available to clients after treatment. Additionally, we take care of any outside assistance requirements, evaluate each visitor’s clinical requirements, and match them with a therapist or other off-site service if necessary.
According to a study conducted in the article “Continuing Care Research: What We’ve Learned and Where We’re Going”, individuals who have lived in recovery homes demonstrated better retention and greater progress in their recovery than those living in other forms of housing.
Spero Alumni
Spero encourages alumni to come back and volunteer for the facility. Our recovery center is made up of many peer leaders, which consist of alumni who enjoy giving back to the community. This allows initiating clients to learn about recovery through people who have first-hand experience in the program.
Additionally, we provide free access for alumni to all Spero programs on-site. Alumni learn the value of giving back when they return as peer leaders. Freedom comes from service in recovery. People in recovery who assist others in the process are more likely to experience long-term recovery.
Giving back to the community can also help alumni:
- Enhance their confidence and self-worth
- Feel more in control of their healing
- Strengthen their feeling of community
- Find greater purpose and meaning in life
- Keep in touch with those who are recovering
- Acquire new abilities
- Get a better understanding of what recovery life is like
- Find out what matters to them
Continuing Support After Recovery
According to Alcohol Research, although eight to nine percent of the U.S. adult population has an alcohol or drug use problem, only two percent seek and receive treatment each year for these disorders. However, even the population who completes treatment has a high risk of relapse. This research emphasizes the importance of aftercare.
According to another Alcohol Research article, continuing care is defined as a phase of less intense therapy that comes after a period of more intense therapy, like residential care or an intensive outpatient program.
The Important Functions of Continuing Care
The following are important functions of continuing care:
- Maintaining abstinence
- Addressing relapse
- Limiting the severity of relapse
- Connecting patients to other sources of support
- Addressing other recovery issues such as employment, housing, recreation, and involvement in meaningful and fulfilling activities
Spero Alumni Activities
Clients at Spero benefit from learning from alumni leaders who are in the aftercare part of recovery. They can find guidance and inspiration from alumni leaders while alumni find a meaningful community to serve.
Spero provides alumni the opportunity to start their own activity groups to allow clients to engage in experiential therapy. These group activities can include cooking, hiking, or woodworking. This teaches alumni in recovery about the benefits of giving back to their communities.
Addiction is a brain disease that can leave individuals feeling lost or looking for purpose once they become sober. People in recovery need to redefine what is important to them to find a sense of purpose. This is why giving individuals an opportunity to give back by guiding other people toward recovery is also beneficial for their own.
Spending time in a community with the common goal of achieving recovery will help you gain a new sense of purpose while reminding you and others about the importance of recovery. At Spero Recovery Center, we can help you achieve that and so much more.
Spero Recovery Center not only offers people the resources necessary to achieve sustained recovery, but we also remain a source of support after treatment. Following treatment, Spero offers alumni various opportunities for continuing care. This involves an individualized plan to maintain recovery, the tools needed to get the most from 12-Step programs, and housing assistance. Additionally, we give alumni the opportunity to benefit from our services free of charge and encourage them to come back and volunteer at the facility. This offers alumni the opportunity to find a purpose to continue long-term recovery. Spending time in a community with the common goal of maintaining recovery boosts longevity and well-being.
