Spero Recovery Center Rehab Schedule

At Spero Recovery Center in Evergreen, Colorado, we provide residential addiction treatment for men. We specialize in 12-step immersion treatment for substance abuse, which takes men through each of the 12 steps slowly. 12-step immersion programs include many of the same aspects as AA meetings but also include therapy and medication if needed.

If you struggle with a substance use disorder and are seeking treatment, you may also wonder what treatment is like. What can you expect from rehab on a daily basis? When you come to get treatment at Spero Recovery Center we generally follow a weekly program schedule. There may be slight variations based on the season and needs of current residents.

What To Expect When You Go To Rehab

Therapy

At Spero Recovery Center in Colorado, we hold daily group therapy meetings to discuss the challenges men face in recovery and to discuss coping strategies. Group therapy is essential in addiction treatment to create a supportive community and ensure no one feels alone in their recovery journey. We also like to take advantage of the beautiful environment here in Evergreen, Colorado, and offer experiential therapy.

Experiential or wilderness therapy for addiction includes hiking, skiing and snowshoeing, nature walks, and rock climbing depending on the season. We also take groups out for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing on Evergreen Lake. This wilderness therapy provides many benefits such as stress reduction, routine building, and strengthening bonds.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

For some substance abuse cases, medication is necessary to treat the illness. If you have co-occurring disorders including mental health challenges, such as anxiety or depression, it’s common to be prescribed a medication as part of your treatment plan. At Spero Recovery Center we’re able to get you access to medical care for medication management.

We also offer dual diagnosis treatment for those who have a substance use disorder co-occurring with a mental health disorder.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation in addiction treatment is a therapeutic intervention for those with a substance abuse problem to learn about addiction and addiction treatment. Family members are often involved in psychoeducation so that they understand and can participate in the recovery process.

At Spero Recovery we have Big Book meetings to learn more about the teachings of the 12 steps. We also invite speakers to come and discuss topics of recovery.

What Will My Day-to-Day Be Like in Rehab?

At Spero Recovery we have a schedule of daily activities. Our rehab schedule fully immerses residents into the 12 steps. Here is an in-depth look at the activities we include in our daily schedule for residents:

Big Book Study refers to the official Alcoholics Anonymous book written by Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, the founders of AA. We have big book study group meetings on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. During these meetings members read from the book and our team at Spero leads a discussion about the passages read. This helps each resident get a full understanding of the 12 steps and builds a stronger foundation from which to work through each of the steps.

We typically spend 4 weeks on a curriculum for the 12 steps. Each month our residents will work through 3 of the 12 steps. For example, on the first Monday of treatment, the group learns about step 1. The curriculum breaks down the steps into manageable tasks and helps members understand the what, why, and how of every step.

Then on Friday, the group will meet to discuss steps 2 and 3 so they can start working on these steps in the 4-week timeframe. After 4 weeks, the group will begin working on steps 4, 5, and 6.

At Spero Recovery Center we offer experiential therapy group meetings sporadically throughout the week. The activities for experiential, or wilderness therapy, require a couple of hours of the day. Physical activities such as hiking, swimming, or even taking a walk, provide many benefits toward recovery. Residents experience stress relief and improved moods. They also often develop an interest in a new hobby that provides something to look forward to outside of rehab.

Experiential group therapy is also a wonderful bonding exercise. Residents make life-long friends while in recovery at Spero Recovery Center. These friendships can make recovery more successful, and residents will get the opportunity to stay in contact with the people they meet at rehab through our alumni program at Spero.

AA meetings are held twice a week at Spero Recovery. You can expect these meetings to be run much like a regular AA meeting. Residents share stories about their past with substance abuse and get an opportunity to talk about their recovery. These exercises are very cathartic and can be inspiring to other members.

Once a week, our clinical director will check in with you. These meetings help assess where you are at in recovery and enable the team at Spero to adjust your treatment if necessary.

Skills workshops are opportunities to develop practical skills such as cooking. Each week we may have one or two workshops for members to learn or improve skills that will ultimately support their recovery. For example, our workshop, “Cooking in Recovery”, teaches healthy eating habits and cooking skills that help residents become more independent.

When possible we invite experts and alumni to come and speak with our residents in rehab about a variety of addiction and recovery topics. This is part of our psychoeducation efforts. We also invite guest speakers to teach workshops, such as woodworking, or other practical skills.

Meditation and yoga have proven to be very effective holistic treatments for addiction. Meditation helps connect with yourself and build self-awareness which is crucial for completing the 12 steps. Yoga is a mindful movement that strengthens your body and mind, so we like to incorporate this as well.

music group at Spero Recovery

About once a week we have a music therapy session where members play and listen to music to express feelings that they may be experiencing in recovery. Music can be healing emotionally and spiritually. The therapeutic music group is a good time for residents to bond as well.

On Sundays, we host a community breakfast. Our community in Evergreen, Colorado is very supportive of our mission and we like to give back to our community. Community service is also a scheduled activity and helps complete part of the 12 steps.

Circle meetings are group meetings with everyone in the men’s residential rehab program, including counselors, directors, and other staff. The purpose of these meetings is to give residents the opportunity to bring up concerns or possible conflicts and resolve them as a group. We understand the issues may arise when residents are staying in the house together during recovery. Our staff encourages members to hold each other accountable and help facilitate conversations to resolve any challenges that our residents struggle with. We hold circle meetings twice a week, which helps keep the recovery house harmonious.

On Thursdays, we hold special meetings to award graduation certificates to guys who have graduated from the program and completed their 12-step journey. Graduates may say a few words to offer encouragement to others or discuss their journey. Other residents also speak at these meetings to congratulate the graduates and offer any constructive feedback they may have.

If there are no members graduating we use this meeting slot for brotherhood activities or community service. Service to others is a pillar of the AA 12 steps. By giving back to each other and our community through service projects, residents are working the steps. Brotherhood activities may include therapeutic exercises, wilderness therapy, or another activity for bonding.

addiction discussions
The community vibe we foster at Spero Recovery enables our clients to feel comfortable and teaches them interpersonal skills. We want to create a safe environment for our clients; our goal is to provide a space where they can become the people they have always wanted to be.

sponsor community
At Spero Recovery, we immerse our clients into a 12 Step community. They find sponsors, meet up with them regularly, and work through the 12 Steps. Members of the community pass down the gift of recovery to our clients, which allows them to begin the process of recovery and eventually pass on the gift to other clients.

mountain rehab
We also offer experiential programming – hikes and other outdoor activities. We also have a full woodworking shop. Inviting specialists onto the premises—such as meditation teachers and chefs—is one of our favorite things to do. Our goal is to teach our clients essential life skills and the importance of building relationships.

Our Addiction Treatment Programs

man doing adventure therapy in Colorado

At our Colorado rehab for men, we offer a residential program where men complete our 12-step program. After working through the 12 steps, our residents are ready to return to their lives. For those who may not be ready to live completely independently, we have a sober living program where members continue to receive support. For every resident, we also provide aftercare to ensure that they’re prepared to maintain their sobriety outside of our rehab.

Our sober living home in Colorado is a residential home where individuals practice independence while still receiving expert guidance. We try to accommodate as many individuals graduating from our program as possible in our sober living home. This is a great community environment to practice your sobriety, attend meetings, and receive support, while returning to your normal life.

Sober living residents may return to work and explore the community. While living in a Spero sober living home, individuals are expected to care for the house and for each other. This adds another layer of support to our program. Our sober living program also strengthens an individual’s sense of responsibility and independence, which helps maintain sobriety.

Sober living is one aspect of our aftercare program in Colorado. Another aspect of aftercare is our alumni program which provides life-long support to individuals who have received treatment at Spero Recovery Center. In addiction treatment, aftercare includes relapse prevention planning and finding continued support, whether that be in the form of our sober living programs, outpatient treatment, or alumni support. Spero Alumni receive life-long support and are welcome to return to our Colorado rehab for meetings, activities, and special events.
